Canadian Writing Contest for Kids
Theme: "Community of Stories"

Award-winning charity Story Studio invites young writers across Canada to explore the connections that bind us together—through family, friendship, culture, and shared experiences. Whether it’s a personal memory, a fictional tale, or a vision of the future, we want to read your story!

Write a short piece (500 to 1500 words) on the theme of ‘a community of stories’. Entry is free, and winners will receive prize packages and a copy of their story published in bound and finished chapbook.

Need an idea? Try one of these prompts!

The Story Keeper – Imagine a character who collects and preserves the forgotten stories of their community. What happens when they uncover a secret that changes everything?
Lost and Found – Tell the story of someone who feels like an outsider until they discover a place, group, or tradition that makes them feel at home.
Echoes of the Past – Write about an old letter, diary, or recording that reveals something powerful about the history of a family or community.
