For Story Studio's Educator's Guide & Story Kit
Story Building Kits & Materials
Begin to cultivate a supply of objects and materials to be used to explore story building. These loose objects and materials may include the following:
- Glass beads, wooden blocks, Lego, popsicle sticks, geometric shapes, string, plastic cups, paper shapes, mirrors & magnifying glasses, beads, keys, gear shapes, buttons, playdough/plasticine, pinecones, rocks, sticks, leaves, shells, etc.
These objects will be used individually or collectively to create story parts such as character, setting, problem, obstacles, as well as providing tools and details for plot development.
Story Examples
- You can explore Story Studio’s youth anthologies for examples of stories written by young writers.
- Gavyn’s story, “The Slim Family” is about a slimy blob that just wants to make friends. It is a great example of a big problem and a character’s tries to solve the problem.
- ‘Midnight in the Fire’ is a story written by a grade 5 student that includes great examples of details and descriptions from beginning to end.
