Feedback
At the Story Studio Writing Society we love working with kids of all ages. Here is some of the feedback we have received:
FROM TEACHERS
*”It was clear that their level and ability of writing increased after having the workshop in our class.”
“They loved the hands on activities and the personal attention they received when writing.”
“They felt like they were professional writers. Especially after receiving their very professional looking books.”
“Writing is very challenging to teach as a classroom contains students at a variety of levels. It was also great to have experts there helping out. Furthermore, the fact that there were so many adults there to help and guide students through the process was extremely beneficial. Teaching writing and editing with one teacher and 28 to 30 students is next to impossible.”
“They truly enjoyed writing their stories and were amazed by the final product.”
“They use strategies that were introduced to them during the workshop and I refer back to it a lot in our writing activities too!”
“I didn’t even put them (the books) down yet and they were lined up to get them, and share theirs with others.”
“I have used this resource 2 years in a row now and it is amazing how much their writing improves, and how excited they are to write their own stories”
“It is a wonderful way to demonstrate that there is no right/wrong. It reminds me to keep it fluid and fun. With practice - story telling is getting easier! I always have an “explore” centre on the go. Sometimes it is just a bunch of objects (generally related to a theme) and the children do whatever they want with them. For February I put all the items in a beautiful box and together we did a story box. The were “enchanted” to sign up for that centre to check out what else was in the box. And YES, I heard more storytelling. The items were being used in more purposeful ways.”
“What a joy to watch their faces when their story was being read. They beamed. The children loved hearing the other children’s stories too!”
“While I do discuss character, setting, problem this experience gave me me more ideas/inspiration for doing more of that and in different ways…..you and your team did a wonderful job preparing them with the stories, examples. For me it was all about being involved with the kids/workshop that tweeked my interest/motivation to try some different ideas/approaches to storytelling. It was a great experience for all of us.”
